The Wessex Ridgeway Trail is described as “a magnificent ridge-top route crossing Dorset's rural heartland”. It's a regular stomping ground for Seven Deadly Spins founder Rob Lee and offers the perfect opportunity for anyone considering their first attempt at a solo long-distance trail ride. At sixty two miles in length the mountain bike version of the route allows for a “double” that is just over half the distance of the second ride in the series: the South Downs Double.

With a start (and finish) in the seaside town of Charmouth, on the dramatic Dorset and East Devon World Heritage Site of the Jurassic Coast, it offers a perfect opportunity to combine a classic UK holiday destination with an excellent endurance mountain biking experience.

It is recommended to use the GPX file for this route (see left) since the legal cycle trail appears to be not that well used and some of the signage is missing or missleading. However, with breathtaking valley views, quirky villages and a seaside start and finish, this crossing of the entire Dorest county (and back again) is certainly not one to be missed.
